Exos Design

The Avalon Team has partnered with Doug Bullock and the team at Exos Design to help create a Master Plan for the entire land at Avalon.

Exos has worked with the Avalon Core Council and the Avalon Design Team over the past six months to create a permaculture based Master Plan for the land that encompasses a long term vision for sustainable land management, building location and design, eco-village design, food forest plan, vegetable gardens, fruit & nut orchards, medicinal plants, forest and fire management, etc.

Douglas Bullock

Walnut Trees Douglas is considered internationally as a master of permaculture design. He has extensive experience in all aspects of permaculture design, installation, and education as well as an encyclopedic knowledge of plants from around the world. His family property (The Bullock Permaculture Homestead) has been described as the best example of Permaculture in North America and a Garden of Eden.

Since 1982, Doug Bullock has lived with his extended family, friends and interns on their Permaculture site on Orcas Island. Douglas has facilitated or directly participated in comprehensive Permaculture projects and classes at their site and at sites around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Hawai'i, Costa Rica, Bahamas, Nicaragua, California and Washington.

Having traveled extensively collecting and studying agricultural systems, he is familiar with a wide range of climate strategies and crops. His specialties include Permaculture, tree crops, nursery practices, creating small and large scale wetland environments and implementing appropriate technologies. Doug has also written numerous articles on Permaculture that were featured in the Permaculture Activist and in the International Permaculture Journal.

Douglas, it has been said, put the "cult" in Permaculture. The Avalon Team considers Doug a true Master and a Mystic!!! Someone who has "walked his talk", all his life.

Scott's unique passion lies in marrying the best of mainstream architecture, landscaping and master planning with permaculture based whole systems integrated design. Scott chose Landscape Architecture as his initial profession because of its ability to artistically and creatively work with the environment at all levels. His focused education on sustainable design led him to work with established firms both in Australia and abroad before co-founding Exos. He has lectured internationally, and managed projects at all levels of design from 5 star resorts, children's playgrounds, community gardens, urban master planning, highway projects to residential / commercial developments in Asia, Europe, Australia and North America.

Dave is an experienced permaculture educator and designer. His special interests include agroforestry, sustainability education, and developing permaculture strategies for the tropics and cold temperate zones. Dave has worked in Hawaii, North America, and Central America and has an insatiable talent for research and eye for detail. Dave has led the extraordinary effort of researching and compiling massive amounts of support data and documents needed by the Design Team to effectively create the Master Plan.
